A BAC-based, Integrated Physical and Genetic Map of chicken

We, in collaboration with Dr. Jerry Dodgson, Michigan State University, have developed a genome-wide, BAC-based, integrated genetic and physical map of the chicken genome from three complementary BAC libraries (BAC & EST Unigene Resources) of the chicken Jungle fowl. This project was/is supported by grants from the USDA/CSREES–National Research Initiative (Project numbers: 99-35205-8566 and 2001-52100-11225).

The BACs are cloned in pBeloBAC11 and its derivative pECBAC1 and are suited for large-scale genome sequencing because of their small vector size (7.5 kb).
